Our family is working on a new and exciting project - a 5th-wheel renovation! This project involves transforming an old RV into a new home on wheels. Join us as we explore the ins and outs of renovating a 5th-wheel trailer. We'll be documenting our progress and sharing valuable tips along the way. Let's get started on this 5th-wheel renovation adventure.

Preparing the land for the fifth-wheel renovation

Preparing the land

We are flattening out the land to put the RV back in so we can start on our fifth-wheel renovation. It’s almost done. Mike’s been fighting the land all day. Then, we can move the fifth wheel into its spot and start the demolition.

Spot where the RV will be placed

Let me show you the little spot where we plan to put the RV in the back of the property.

Flattening out the land

I’m excited. It’s a really good spot and looks out into a big hay field. It’s really pretty. Here we are flattening out the land.

Adding the hookups

Adding the hookups

Now, we’re tying in the septic system. I’ve just dug up this pipe. I’m adding this little block so if it ever happens to get driven over, the block will take the weight and it won’t break the pipe.

Driving the RV into place

Pulling into the spot

All right. So, the RV pad is all done. The hookups are in the ground. Now it’s time to put all the slide-outs in and get it moved over. We are driving the RV into place.

Removing the furniture

Fifth wheel renovation

Today’s the day. The furniture is getting out of the RV. We’re going to start demos soon. Let’s get the furniture out of here and then we can start ripping stuff up. So, take one last look. It’s going to be a wreck, but then it’ll look so much better. Let’s do it.

Unscrewing the furniture

Here we are unscrewing the furniture to take it out.

Taking out the upper cabinets

Demo-ing the fifth wheel

Day one of demo is done. All of the bulky couches are out. The upper cabinets are out in the back. We just have these window valances left and that’s it. It already looks so much better in here.

Next up is going to be this area. We are going to take out the whole kitchen and entertainment center stuff. Get everything gutted and start making a game plan.
