Ebaide is a Nigerian woman who moved to Kenya to create her very own DIY camper van. She purchased a 1989 Nissan Vanette. After three months of building, she is finally able to live in it full time.

She bought the van as a shell. It had nothing besides the engine. She insulated the walls and ceiling with blankets.

At the entrance of the van plywood graffiti wall creates a partition between the camper and cabin. It serves as a security measure lest someone try to break in through the front of her van. It’s also cool décor and reminds her of home with its Nigerian flag.

Opposite the graffiti wall is a hidden toilet on a bench covered with a cushion. The structure around it opens so she can empty and clean it. It is very discrete. The toilet doubles as an extension for the bed.

In the kitchen, the counter comes off to reveal the small sink. Drawers open and convert to countertops for the cooker. Additionally, the converting drawers offer more counter space for preparations. She can also set up an outdoor kitchen. A shelf pulls out from the bed and that’s where she puts her cooker.

For storage, she has six compartments under the bed. There is also a section under the bed for all the electricity. This is where she plugs in her solar panels, her cooker, and any other electricity she needs.

For security purposes, she closed the windows with metal. For air, she left a small panel window with bars for protection. She also installed a sunroof in the ceiling of the van.

She has realized her dream of van living. It is affordable and enables her to easily explore Africa. She hopes to inspire others in Africa to try this lifestyle.
