He's Serving Tea & Creating Community From a DIY Camper Van

James has converted his van into a mobile tea station and travels the country, serving tea to the nomad community. His tea is completely free, and James’s motivation is simple: he enjoys creating a sense of community anywhere he goes and listening to strangers’ stories. Let’s take a look at James’s DIY camper van.

The sitting area occupies most of the van’s interior, as it was important for James to create a welcoming space for entertaining guests and having tea. The long couch can be transformed into a guest bed when needed. Swivel seats open up the space, creating more seating for busy evenings.

The burner stove hides beneath the counter, which creates more countertop space during prep time, and protects the TV on the wall when James is cooking. There is a sink, but he uses gallons of water instead of a faucet, which he found inconvenient in the first years of van life.

James says he is absolutely leading the best life he could. He believes that owning less makes him more intentional, with each of his possessions having a story and a purpose behind them. Now that he has let go of most of his stuff, things just seem like a burden, and his new life brought him relief and freedom.

James is a traveler and an adventurer, and he loves meeting new people. This is why he started the Air Nomad Café, serving tea on busy street sides and at events.
