I want to share some large family breakfast ideas for those of you who are trying to feed your family on a budget. I have created plenty of content with ideas for dinners, but I’ve never shown you what we do for breakfast and lunch.

We buy a lot of our breakfast foods in bulk which helps keep prices down. We also have laying hens so many of our breakfasts include eggs.

Buying breakfast and lunch items in bulk

1. What we buy in bulk

We buy pancake mix in bulk at Sam’s Club. We also buy oatmeal packages in bulk, as well as flour and rice. Cereal is a great thing to buy in bulk as well. It’s easy and always a crowd-pleaser. We always get a big stock of potatoes. I make fried potatoes for breakfast all the time.

Bear pancakes

2. Bear pancakes and bacon

I try to add a little bit of fun to my pancake-making so it’s more appealing to the kids. I start with one large scoop of batter for the round head and then add two small scoops for the ears. Then I add a couple of chocolate chips to make the eyes.

Cooking the bacon

To save money on the meat we buy a whole pig from the butcher and that lasts us a long time. This breakfast we’re using the bacon strips to add some protein to the meal. For something natural we have apple sauce or any other fruit we happen to have in the refrigerator.

Ham sandwich

3. Ham sandwich

This is a simple breakfast. We have a side of applesauce which I bought in bulk from Aldi. I also made a delicious sandwich. I put some ham, cheese, and egg in a bun to create a small breakfast sandwich. The little kids didn’t want this so they ate toaster waffles and oranges.

Waffles and apple sauce

4. Waffles and apple sauce

Apple sauce is a great side dish for breakfast so we have that pretty often. I like to pair it with some toaster waffles. I topped the waffles with the cinnamon sugar butter and some maple syrup.

Leftover spaghetti pie and calamari

5. Leftover spaghetti pie and calamari

For this lunch, I heated up some leftovers. I had some leftover spaghetti pie with some chili sauce on the side. I also heated up some leftover salt and pepper calamari.

Leftover lunches are the best because you don’t have to do any work or planning. You just pop last night’s leftovers in the fridge. I even packed this for my kids’ school lunches.

6. Lunch sandwich with leftover calamari

We didn’t have a ton of leftovers from dinner for this one so I packed most of the leftovers for my husband to bring to work and threw some things together.

I have some cut-up carrots, a bologna and tomato sandwich with some salt and pepper, as well as the rest of the leftover calamari.

Leftover baked mac and cheese

7. Leftover baked mac and cheese

For this meal, I have leftover baked mac and cheese. It ended up being what I call “clear out the fridge mac and cheese,” so I threw in some bacon and some ground beef.

I put some crumbs on the top and baked it and it was delicious. I’m pairing it with some carrot sticks, orange, and apple slices on the side.

8. Leftover creamy veggie soup

For this leftover lunch, I heated up some vegetable soup. I made this wonderful creamy soup with broccoli and carrots. I served it restaurant-style with a side of bread.
