5 DIY Cleaning Recipes You Can Use Inside Your House

Today, we will be making five DIY cleaning recipes you can use inside the house. I love making my cleaners. It's one of the ways that I avoid unnecessary waste in the home. It's also a way that I avoid unnecessary chemicals.

Unfortunately, the FDA doesn't even regulate the term soap, so many toxins and chemicals go into our personal care products, our cleaners, and a lot of the different products we bring into our homes. Using DIY cleaning recipes is a great way to avoid all of those unnecessary toxins and synthetic additives.

DIY refrigerator cleaner

This is perfect for cleaning your refrigerators. I live in a farmhouse With a bunch of other people, namely two boys. I hate to carry the stereotype that boys are messy, but the boys that I live with are definitely messy. The fridge, especially after a few weeks, gets really grimy. This is the recipe that I like to use to clean the fridge.

The way that you're going to make this DIY cleaning recipe is you're going to put half a cup of vinegar into your spray bottle. Then you're going to put one cup of water and ten essential oil drops. I like to use lemon because lemon-scented anything for me; just screams clean. Now, you are done making your DIY refrigerator cleaner.

I like to use reusable bamboo towelettes to clean the house. They look a lot like paper towels and are as thin as paper towels. They are fantastic because you can actually throw them in the wash and reuse them over and over, and then at the end of their life, you can compost them.

I recommend not using paper towels because paper towels are usually packaged in plastic. Not only that, they require new resources to create. Try to challenge yourself with this and avoid paper towels and just single-use anything.

DIY glass cleaner

There are a lot of DIY glass cleaners out there, and a lot of them are full of crap. They don't work and leave streak marks on your windows. This is a tried and true recipe. I've used many different recipes, and this is the one that works.

For the recipe for the DIY glass cleaner, you're going to put two cups of water into your spray bottle. Then you're going to add half a cup of vinegar.

Next, you're going to add half a cup of rubbing alcohol. The last ingredient is a few drops of your favorite essential oil. Again, for this recipe, I'm going to be using lemon essential oil. So it's as easy as that.

You'll want to label these bottles because they're going to get all mixed up, especially if the bottles look the same like mine do. Just stick some tape and use a marker on it, and you're good to go.

DIY marble cleaner

We have a lot of marble inside our home. All of our countertops are made of marble, even in the bathroom. You have to be careful with this one because if you use a recipe online that perhaps didn't do their research and recommends that you put something harsh and acidic like vinegar in there, that is going to destroy your countertops.

You are going to take half a cup of rubbing alcohol, and then you're going to use two cups of water. Then you're going to put two drops of Castile soap. I personally love to use Dr. Bronner's. They are a company that I 100% stand behind. Everyone who buys their product is like an automatic brand ambassador because their products work, and they're fair trade, organic, vegan, and all the shebang.

To clean your countertops, spray a little on the surface. Then take your rag reusable rag that you can use over and over again and give that a little rub.

DIY floor cleaner

This cleaner can be used for the majority of floors. To make this cleaner, you are going to use two cups of warm water, half a cup of white vinegar, half a cup of rubbing or isopropyl alcohol, three drops of liquid dish soap, and again, I am using the Dr. Bronner soap here and then five to ten essential oil drops. You can use lemon, tea tree oil, lavender, or whatever you fancy.

Now, you're going to take this in your spray bottle and just give your floor a good spray. If you have a very large amount of floor to clean, I would recommend just unscrewing the bottle and then just kind of splattering around the house and taking a mop and mopping your floors.

For the sake of this video, I wasn't going to mop all our floors. They didn't need to be, so I sprayed it, took my little reusable rag, and cleaned up the spray.

DIY toilet cleaner

Yes, clean those toilets. I'm passionate about cleaning toilets in a vegan, zero-waste, and health-conscious fashion. So this is a super easy recipe. Note that this is not a recipe you will make in a spray bottle because it will explode everywhere. Because of combining baking soda and vinegar, you're going to want to make this inside the toilet.

You will want to have one cup of white vinegar and then some essential oil drops, whatever you like, in a spray bottle. Try to get it everywhere. Then inside the toilet itself, you're going to take your baking soda and sprinkle it all around the toilet bowl. I even like to do this on the seat itself. I use this specific cleaner to clean the entire toilet.

You're going to take your toilet bowl brush and brush around the toilet, and bada bing, you're done.

I have been using orange vinegar +water+fresh mint+and a few drops of dish soap for several years. started with alcohol (note real thing not rubbing alcohol) but stopped because it isnt necessary. in my bathroom I wipe down toilet and sink every shower with my apple cider vinegar+lavendar (also my face toner).

Orange vinegar is homemade in a 2 quart jar and I add 1/2 qt to 1/2 qt water in a spray bottle with the mint and soap. And yes, for floors I just pour out a minimal amount and then mop.
