Budget Friendly Bedding Ideas for Your Home

Whether you’re on a tight budget or looking for an inexpensive way to refresh your bedroom, here are a few budget friendly bedding ideas!

With the Holidays approaching, I decided I really needed to give our bedrooms a quick refresh. I didn’t want to spend very much money or time on the project. I decided to tackle the bedding in the guest room first. Here are a few of my budget friendly bedding ideas!

Here is what the guest bedroom looked like when I started:

While there was nothing really wrong with the existing bedding, I wanted to make it look a little more cozy for the fall & winter. Pictured below is a quilted comforter set and matching shams that I had originally purchased for our master bedroom. My husband thought the set was too dark. So I decided to try them in the guest room.

Decorate with Pillows

In addition to changing the comforter, I wanted to change the pillow shams and pillow cases. I found this set of embroidered pillowcases that I had completely forgotten about. Does that ever happen to you?

Here is a close up:

I know the design is little blue flowers but they almost look like snowflakes! I have a snowflake candle that I plan to add to the bedside table after Thanksgiving!

Using pillows is an inexpensive and easy way to add some color and pattern to your room. Choose a pillow or pillow sham that matches your existing décor, or go bold with bright colors or patterns. Pillows, pillow cases as well as pillow shams can be found at thrift stores, yard sales, estate sales and online retailers. Or like me, you might find the perfect thing in your linen closet!

If you do purchase pillows or pillow covers that have been gently used, be sure to wash them before using them. Most pillows and pillow inserts can be washed in the washing machine and dried in the dryer.

Pillow shams and pillow cases can also be washed in the washing machine.

Use What You Have

I also had this cream colored crocheted throw that I found in my Mom’s things when I was going thru the downsizing process. I added it to the foot of the bed to add some texture.

See those baskets at the foot of the bed? Here is a better picture of the larger of the two. It originally belonged to my paternal grandmother. It is beginning to show some wear but I love it anyway. I don’t really know how old it is, my grandmother passed away before I was born so I know it has been around awhile!

About the Bed

The bed is a full-size bed. The frame belonged to my Great Grandmother, my Mom’s Grandmother. My Mom always called it the Pineapple bed. I had to bring it to Florida since it had pineapple finials!

The Room isn’t Quite Finished….

I have plans to put something on the wall above the head of the bed, but I am still trying to decide what to hang there. Pictured below is one possibility. This amazing piece of gingerbread was one of the ones my helpers found in the barn when I was going thru the downsizing process. I do have the missing spindle and plan to glue it back in. The gingerbread is still in my van waiting for it’s perfect home! If you are interested in knowing what else we found in the barn, you can read about it here:

The Guest Room Serves A Dual Purpose

Our quest bedroom room seems to always be the place where I stack everything that I can’t find another place for. There are totes that contain out of season home decor and family pictures and other memorabilia. I am still working on finding efficient ways to store everything!

In the meantime, I found a budget friendly way to build a “closet” to help hide some of the totes along the wall. All of the details can be found here: Let’s Build A “Closet”

I love everything about this room ☺️ I too have things from grand & great grandparents that I use in my bedroom. What I didn’t have was a screen type piece to hide the things on the opposite side of my bed. I will now!
