10 Genius & Budget-Friendly Organizing Tips for Small Spaces

Today we are going to be talking about organizing tips for small spaces that you can implement in your home. These are the same things that I am doing in my home. I have a relatively small 900-square-foot house, so I have to optimize the space with systems that make sense.

Multipurpose furniture

1. Use multipurpose furniture

This is a quick view of my room, but I want to put emphasis on this little wardrobe system here. I got this from Ikea and use it as a multipurpose decorative system. I have the glass so you can see straight through it. On the bottom, it's still organized.

The way to organize small spaces is to find furniture that is multipurpose. It can be decorative and storage solutions, but it has to be intentional. I placed cubes that came from the Container Store and have all of my electronic cords and things like that. I have three of the cubes, which are also stackable. At the bottom, I have the paperwork.

I have a filing system, printer, and extra hats for my business. I also have a vertical pull-out drawer. It has accessories for my camera, my Cricut and Cricut paper, an extra camera, and more Cricut supplies.

2. Maximize your vertical space

If you are limited on space, there's no reason why your door should be untapped. I have a door rack from the Container Store. I have the large buckets here, and then they funnel down to the medium and small.

Here's the actual closet. It's not the prettiest, but it's functional. Don't waste your vertical space, especially when we're thinking about doors. A door rack is going to be your absolute best friend.

In my closet, I have a wardrobe system from Ikea. I want to showcase my Shoe Space Savers; this will help you maximize your vertical space and stack more shoes so that you can fit more shoes on a row or a shelf. Again, multipurpose furniture and maximizing vertical space; however, you need to get it done right.

Honeycomb space savers

3. Honeycomb space savers

I adore the honeycomb space savers. I get these from Amazon, but you can find something similar at the Container Store. They help you maximize the space. I can fit two pairs of socks in each honeycomb, and it's compartmentalized.

As your clothes come out of the laundry, stuff your underwear, sports bras, and socks into the compartments. It's easy to access, it's easy to put things back, and it increases functionality. They're my absolute go-to for my space and client spaces.

In my bed frame, I have two pull-out drawers. I put my workout clothes here. I have my little drawer organizers. Everything is file folded, and it helps me to maximize the furniture in my house.

Drawer organizers

Another way to make sure that you are maximizing your space well is to make sure that all of your drawers have organizers in them. I compartmentalize the things in all of the drawers in my house. They all have some type of organizer to maximize the function in the space.

Command hooks

5. Command hooks

The washer and dryer are in my dining room kitchen area. I don't have a dedicated space for things like my laundry detergent or even my cleaning things. Command Hooks will be your best friend in a space like this.

They're not heavy; you can get heavy-duty strips to hang things on. I have a little bin for my laundry stuff, and that's it—small space organization. Use command hooks everywhere you can. You will always see me using command hooks to maximize vertical space.

Cabinet door backs

6. Maximize cabinet door backs

Another way to maximize your space, especially when you do not have a lot of space, is to maximize the backs of cabinet doors. I have an over-the-door organizer on all of the cabinets in the kitchen.

Front entry shoe organizer

7. Front entry shoe organizer

I do not have a closet by my front door, and I don't have a big closet in my bedroom. All of my tennis shoes are stored at the front of the house in my shoe cabinet organizer from Ikea.

I use those shoe space savers to maximize the space in this cabinet and to fit more shoes. Because I have the shoe space saver, what would fit twelve pairs of shoes can now fit 24.

Instead of stacking the shoes side by side, I maximize the vertical space. If you have bigger shoes, you can slant the shelves.

Shelving organizing ideas for small spaces

8. Shelving

Another way to maximize the space in your home to make it more functional and also decorative is going to be shelves. They can be wall shelves where they're mounted to the wall or a freestanding decorative shelving system for decorations and organizing.

I have bins with things labeled inside of them. Shelves will be a great solution for maximizing that vertical space and a great organizing solution.

Stackable drawers

9. Use stackable drawers

Invest in stackable systems. I like things that have pull-out drawers as opposed to things with lids. With lids, you have to pull things out and move things around. I use a modular system from the Container Store.

10. Cart organizers

Another way to maximize your small space at home is to use products like carts. Carts will be helpful and stackable things will be helpful. I have two carts; one is in my office, and I have it subcategorized with little cart organizers. The bottom two tiers are tech stuff and batteries.

Hopefully, that was helpful to see some of the things I am doing in my home to maximize the small space. I have to be very intentional about the systems I'm creating and the products I'm using to make sure that I can access and function within my own home.
