Small Closet Organization Ideas to Make the Most of Your Space
Do you feel like the space in your small closet is not optimized? Julie Khuu, a YouTuber and interior designer, is sharing her best small closet organization ideas to help you make the most of the space that you have.
1. Purge your closet
The first step is always to clean out your closet: decide what to keep and what to get rid of. Next, organize your clothes by type: tops, bottoms, accessories, etc.
2. Take inventory and measure
Take inventory of all the remaining items and measure how much space each type of clothes requires in your closet: both in width and length. Also, get the measurements of your closet.
3. Decide how you break up the space
The placement of the hanging rods is entirely up to you. Julie recommends a double hanging rod for tops and pants, or a single rod for long coats or dresses. The leftover space can be used for accessories, shoes, and laundry hampers. In the video, Julie demonstrates graphs that will help you plan out the measurements.
Now that you have established how you divide your closet space, let’s look at Julie’s designer tips for small closet organizers!
- Remove the doors and replace them with curtains, or make the doors functional by adding more storage on them.
- Add wallpaper or paint to personalize your closet.
- If you are struggling to find enough space for all your clothes, get a clothing rack.
- If your bedroom is getting too full, rehouse your shoe collection in a linen closet or a hallway coat closet.
- Reorganize seasonally. You can store unused seasonal items under the bed or in hard-to-reach corners of your closet.
Hopefully, this has given you some ideas on how to organize a small closet. Do you have any life hacks? Feel free to share in the comments.
