How She Made the Most of Her Hong Kong Tiny Apartment

Daphney Ho, a self-taught interior designer, has redesigned a two-bedroom Hong Kong tiny apartment and moved in with her husband. Despite the complicated diamond-shaped layout, Daphney managed to utilize every corner of the 517 sqft apartment and create a cozy and welcoming home.

Let’s take a look at how she did that.

First, Daphney demolished the bedroom walls to increase the size of the bathroom. She also replaced all the doors with sliding doors to save space. In the design, she used a lot of arches and curves to soften the irregular shape of the space.

A platform separates the living room from the entrance area and the dining room. A custom-made sofa suits the angle of the wall, and there are drawers below it for additional storage. The TV cabinet aligns with the height of the sofa, and by being lifted from the floor looks lighter and visually cleaner.

To maximize the dining space, Daphney went with the idea of booth seating which wraps around the round dining table. The material of the wood and cushions is the same she used for the sofa, which makes for an elegant united look.

The bathroom is an open space, with a separation of dry and wet areas, as inspired by Japanese bathrooms. A frosted glass sliding door is used as a partition for the toilet room. The wet room is behind a glass door, and if there is a need for privacy, the storage closet door can be used to cover the glass.

The couple uses the second room as a dressing room and a multifunctional room. This room was intentionally made very flexible, to allow for a rearrangement for other purposes in the future. There is a desk, a foldable iron board on the wall, and a walk-in closet created with an adjustable hanging system and storage boxes.
