How She Found a Way to Finance Her $40k Tiny House

Cindy bought a park model 40k tiny house in Acony Bell Tiny House Village in North Carolina and customized it to fit her needs. She has lived in her Sunflower Tiny House for three years and she absolutely loves it. Here's why.

Cindy shares that she had a lot of freedom in designing the house: she chose the countertops, the flooring, and the wall coloring. She also decorated the house, using a lot of sunflowers, which for her symbolize hope and a positive outlook on life. For a maintenance-free outside space, she built a spacious deck. There is also a seasonal garden.

The house has gas for cooking and heating; there are two air conditioning units to keep the house cool in the summer. Cindy also has a stackable washer and dryer in the house. There is a regular bathroom with everything she needs on a daily basis.

Moreover, Cindy has found a way to have the Tiny House pay for itself. Cindy travels a lot, so she decided to rent the house out on Airbnb on the weekends. By doing that two or three times a week, she finances the tiny home expenses in their entirety. She has put signs around the house to show which items the guests are free to use, and which ones are her personal belongings.

Renting out the tiny home

Сindy chose to live in a tiny home village to create a sense of community of like-minded individuals. She found this to be very true: the tiny homeowners care about the planet and have a wonderful bond. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Cindy hosted small outdoor dinner parties for her neighbors on her deck.

Would you like to live in a tiny house like this or rent it for a weekend?

She is paying it off by renting it out, that is my guess how she’s doing it… 🤷🏼‍♀️

That is exactly what the article said. She rents it out 2-3 times a week on Airbnb. It also said that she is able to do this as she travels a lot and this pays for her home.

How do you rent out anything two or three times PER WEEK? If it isn't to the same person, I really gotta wonder how that's possible. Also, if you are renting out your property for cash, doesn't that have to reported on your income tax?

This story is beyond misleading. Post a bonafide article/video on how a senior on a fixed income can live comfortably in a tiny house - that would certainly be something worth investigating. And if it isn't feasible, please have enough integrity and compassion to say so (with details), instead of giving false hope to folks like me and Diana.
