I am going to be cleaning my oven today, so if you need some cleaning motivation, I got you. I found this oven cleaning hack on TikTok and I am going to test it out on my oven.

The holidays are coming, and I want my oven to be spotless for all the cooking. I am excited and nervous to try this mixture. I am not sure if this is going to work, I feel like my oven is far beyond help.

Take a look yourselves. So is this hack really that helpful? Let’s find out together.

The concoction that I am going to be using is baking soda, dishwashing liquid, and vinegar. According to TikTok, I need to use 1.5 cups of baking soda, half a cup of dishwashing liquid (I am using Dawn, which I bought at Dollar Tree), and ¼ cup of vinegar.

Then I will mix them all together and see what happens.

First, I spread the mixture around the bottom and the walls of the oven, as well as the inside of the door, and scrub it in to make it even. Then I let it soak overnight.

The next morning, I wipe it with a sponge to clean it off.

I am a little concerned now - the more I wipe, the more suds develop. Perhaps half a cup of dishwashing liquid is overkill. Or maybe I should use something other than a microfiber cloth.

I am actually using Scotch-Brite, which I got from Dollar Tree. It has been good for getting rid of all the grease and whatever else gets stuck in the oven, but it has not scratched it up yet. But then again, I put a half cup of dishwashing liquid in here, maybe that is what it is supposed to do. I am not sure, but I do not want to cook food and have it taste like dishwashing liquid.

I will take a minute figuring out what I should do, but in the meantime, let me show you what it looks like since I have cleaned it with the microfiber cloth.

It looks pretty clean, but once I start wiping, all those suds are going to reappear and it is going to bubble up again. Maybe I am supposed to spray the vinegar on after I wipe it. I do not know, but I am about to find out.

Scrubbing the oven

I have taken a break and started scrubbing again. At this point in the process, I am doubting myself. I do not know if this oven is going to ever get clean. I don't even know why I started this project. I am cleaning and cleaning and cleaning, and so far nothing is happening. But all I can do is just keep cleaning, keep trying, so that is what I am going to do.

I wanted to learn how to clean an oven without oven cleaner, but I am giving it one last chance, and if it does not work, I am going to drive to Dollar Tree and get myself an oven cleaner. Or maybe I will just buy a new oven, it is that bad.

Guess what? It actually works. The mixture actually works, but one thing I am going to tell you is that you have to put in some muscle! You are going to have to really scrub in order for this stuff to work.

Here is a little Before vs. After for you. I am never going to let my oven get this bad ever again. Looks brand new right now. Hope you enjoyed this DIY oven cleaner hack. For those of you who decide to try it, good luck, and let me know in the comments how it went!

No I never let my oven get dirty, use foil and large enough pans when cooking to be sure I don't have boil overs.
