6 Fun and Affordable Dollar Tree Dessert Ideas
I'm showing you six Dollar Tree dessert recipes you can make during any holiday season or any time of the year.
I love finding ingredients there to make these easy Dollar Tree desserts for my family and give them out as little treat plates to friends. I’m sure you’ll love them.
1. Peppermint brownie recipe
This is so simple to make and it turns out so delicious.
Ingredients:
- 1 box chocolate fudge brownie mix
- Vegetable oil
- 1 egg
- 1 box of 12 candy canes
Directions:
Make the brownie mix following the package instructions.
While the brownies bake, smash up candy canes.
For an 8-inch x 8-inch pan of brownies, I’m smashing up four or five candy canes.
Put the candy canes in a plastic zipper bag and crush them with a meat tenderizer or other tool.
When the brownies are done, cover the top in a layer of crushed candy cane pieces. Let the brownies cool. You can push the pieces in a little so they stay on top of the brownie.
2. Cake box cookie recipe
You can make delicious cookies using a box of cake mix.
Ingredients:
- Vegetable oil
- 1 box yellow cake mix
- 2 eggs
- Red and green sprinkles
Directions:
Put cake mix in a bowl, add eggs, and the recommended amount of oil from the directions on the box, and mix.
Mix in as many sprinkles to the dough as you want. You can also add any red and green candy if you choose.
Pop the bowl of dough in the refrigerator for about 20 to 30 minutes to firm it up.
Spoon out dough for cookies on a cookie sheet. You will probably get about two dozen cookies from this box mix. Add sprinkles on top.
Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about nine minutes.
Cool on a wire rack.
3. Peanut butter cookies
This is one of my favorite cookie recipes and it’s really just three ingredients! These are so easy to make.
Ingredients:
- Jar of peanut butter
- 1 package of Hershey Kisses candy
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
Directions:
Mix 1 cup of sugar, 1 cup of peanut butter, and one egg in a bowl with a hand mixer.
Put the dough in the fridge for 20 to 30 minutes to firm up.
Scoop the dough onto a cookie sheet. It should make a little over a dozen cookies. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 10 minutes.
When the cookies are done, immediately put a Hershey Kiss right on top in the middle. Let the cookies cool.
4. Rolo pretzels
I am adding peanuts to this recipe so it’s like a Take 5 candy bar.
Ingredients:
- 1 jar peanuts
- 1 package Rolo
- 1 package of flat square waffle pretzels
Directions:
Put pretzels on a baking sheet.
Put one Rolo on top of each pretzel.
Bake the pretzels and Rolos at 250 degrees Fahrenheit for three minutes.
After the pretzels and Rolos bake, press one peanut into the top of each melted Rolo.
Add a pretzel on top of the peanut to make little pretzel sandwiches. Press the pretzel down gently so it sticks but doesn’t break. Let them cool.
5. Marshmallow treat bars
These are like Rice Krispy treats depending on what kind of cereal you can find. I bought this Halloween Crunch cereal instead.
Ingredients:
- 1 box cereal
- 1 package mini-marshmallows
- 3 tablespoons margarine
- Sprinkles/candy canes for the topping
Directions:
Put 3 tablespoons of margarine in a pan and melt it on top of the stove on low heat.
Dump the bag of marshmallows into the bowl of melted butter and mix. Keep the pan on low heat to melt the marshmallows.
Add 6 cups of the cereal to the bowl and mix. Turn off the heat so you don’t burn the cereal.
Spray your baking dish with cooking spray to prevent sticking. Use a spatula to spread the mix evenly in the baking dish. It will be very sticky.
Put the baking dish in the fridge for 20 to 30 minutes to set.
6. Frosted sugar cookies
Dollar Tree has different color frostings, too, but I got the vanilla and I’ll decorate them with sprinkles and crushed candy canes.
Ingredients:
- 1 package sugar cookie mix
- 1 can vanilla frosting
- Margarine
- Candy canes
- Sprinkles
Directions:
Make the cookies following the package instructions. Flatten the cookies just a bit to make it easier to frost.
When the cookies cool, frost them.
I added sprinkles on some and crushed peppermint on others.
