Simple & Festive Holiday Table Decor
One of my favorite things about the holidays are the many opportunities we have to gather with family and friends to celebrate the season.
This year we are planning on a few sit down dinners. One with a group of friends, a luncheon for my girl friends, as well as a family dinner. This simple and festive setting will be used for all three dinner parties.
I wanted a table that would be festive, quick to put together and inexpensive. This tablescape was completely created with items that I had on hand.
I took the basic design that I had used for my Chic Black and White Fall Tablescape and changed out a couple of the elements to create an entirely new look.

The white tablecloth, black chargers, gold rimmed plates, crystal goblets, wooden bread bowl and black and white table runner are neutral enough to be used in a variety of table settings.
If you remember from the fall tablescape the black and white runner is actually a 12″ wide ribbon. I have had it for several years. I purchased it at Michaels.
For this festive Christmas table, I added a glittery red polka dot ribbon on top of the black and white ribbon.
This red glitter ribbon I purchased a couple of years back at Sam’s Club. Their ribbon is such a steal, at $6.98 for 50 yards of ribbon. I have found something similar at Hobby Lobby that you can see here.
We are using the black charger and gold rimmed plate again and adding a red napkin to bring in that festive color.
We topped each napkin with a couple of sprigs of boxwood trimmed from my garden and then added these darling festive salad plates. I found this set of 12 plates at a yard sale last summer for $10. 🙌 I knew that they would be a fun addition to my collection.

Simple, inexpensive and yet so festive.
For the centerpiece we used the same wooden bread bowl from the fall table. I purchased my hand carved bread bowl at a vintage market a while back. I found a similar hand carved bread bowl on amazon you can see here.
We began by filling it with clippings of pine from my garden, followed by several mercury glass ornaments.
We then added 3 red ball ornaments and a few sprigs of boxwood.
Once all of the main elements were in the bowl, I thought it would be fun if it had a frosting of snow. I didn’t have any snow flocking on hand, but Steph suggested that we try powdered sugar. We simply placed a little powdered sugar in a mesh strainer and sprinkled on a little “snow.”
The powdered sugar added the perfect touch to our simple and festive centerpiece. Isn’t it beautiful? And best of all it was made with items around my house, no expense at all.
The fun and festive “Fa la la la la” plates were the inspiration for the theme of our table, so we thought why not add a little Christmas music to it as well.
I had an old book of Christmas music that was literally falling apart. We tore out several pages and then using a metallic gold ink pad we gilded the edges.
If you don’t have some old Christmas music lying around, you may find some at your local thrift store.
We then placed the gilded sheets of music around the centerpiece.
We added a few votive candles on the table for ambiance and then added a little more “snow” by sprinkling Epsom Salt around the table.
I purchased these votive candle jars at Walmart. They are a steal at $6 for 12.
With the glow of the candles, the festive colors and the hint of snow, we are now ready to let the festivities begin.
