Today is all about baseboard cleaning hacks!

Baseboards are one of those things I have always been very aware of, and it is one of the first things I notice when I go somewhere.

I have been in homes or businesses that look clean, but I always glance at the baseboards. My eyes just immediately notice dustiness or dirtiness on that area.

This area is often overlooked in cleaning, but I think it is also just one of those places that constantly gets dirty.

Between dust, dirt, dogs, kids, and things like this, they need attention!

Here are my favorite baseboard cleaning hacks that can help you too.

Baseboard Cleaning Hacks That Save Time, Money, and Work So Good!

Now that I am in my third trimester of this pregnancy (see picture above lol), I am starting to deep clean all areas of my house even more than usual. Baseboards are a big thing to me, and I try to keep up with cleaning them once a week or so. Once a month, I will deep clean the baseboards with a cleaner (mentioned below), but they are just one of those spots in the home I like to keep clean. Baseboards not only collect dust, but they get really dirty from dogs, kids, shoes, spilling things, or whatever else comes along.

Baseboards in bathrooms and kitchens seem to be the dirtiest too.

Not only do our baseboard cleaning tips save time because they work quickly, but they also save money because some of them involve things like used dryer sheets and DIY cleaner 🙂

Here are my top tips for keeping those baseboards clean and dust free!

Vacuum It With The Wand Attachment On Your Vacuum Cleaner

I do this each time I vacuum, and one of the easiest things to do. I use the long wand attached on my vacuum cleaner, and after I vacuum rugs or carpet, I just use the wand to go along the baseboard area. If you try any of our hacks today, always start with this. You might already do this! I am adding this tip first because when I talked with some friends a few months ago, many of them didn’t even think to do this one.

Also Use The Fabric Attachment

The wand works great, but I also use the soft fabric attachment which gets into the grooves of baseboards really well! It does a great job with dust or cobwebs.

Mop The Baseboards

When I use my Swiffer mop on the kitchen or bathroom floor, I always use the mop to also clean the baseboards. I just tip the mop over so the top of the pad is touching the top of the baseboard and wipe. It is quick and easy to do if you are already mopping your floor. You can really use any mop to do this!

Microfiber

Microfiber cloths are one of the best tools in your home for dust removal. Since they are reusable and washable, you can buy a pack of microfiber that will last you years. I bought this pack on Amazon back in 2017, and I am still using them. I keep microfiber all around my house, so I can easily grab one for cleaning. Since baseboards get dusty quick, sometimes they just need a wipe down with a microfiber. I do this in my bathroom, kitchen, and living room often. If you don’t want to bend down, try using your Swiffer mop to attach a microfiber cloth.

Try Used Dryer Sheets

This is hack I have done since my husband and I first got married 15 years ago. I use the better for you dryer sheets found her e, and I always save them after they have been used. I dust around the laundry room with them, and also wipe down baseboards. It catches dust well!

Try Our DIY Window Cleaner Spray For a Deep Clean

I have found this DIY window cleaning recipe is FANTASTIC for baseboards. Not only does it clean dust, but it also cleans just about anything on your baseboards without very much scrubbing. I just spray and wipe off. It also keeps the baseboards cleaner for longer!

Use Chemistry Cachet’s All-Purpose Cleaner From The eBook

Many readers have written me over the years that the all-purpose cleaner on page 13 is a miracle cleaner, and one lady told me it was her secret to cleaning baseboards. I have to admit, it cleans them really well too! The alcohol base is very mild, so it doesn’t harm paint, but it cleans every surface so well. I will clean my baseboards with this spray when I am using it for my bathroom and kitchen too.

Get a Baseboard Buddy

If you really don’t want to bend down to clean grooved baseboards, try a baseboard buddy tool. My friend has back issues, so she bought this tool from Amazon, and she said it has been so helpful for her baseboards. To save time and if you don’t want to bend over, getting a tool like this might be worth it!

How Often Should You Clean Baseboards

Along with using these easy hacks to get your baseboards clean, keeping up with the cleaning will make a huge difference. In my t ime efficient cleaning tips post, I mentioned that keeping up with cleaning is really the key to easier and long lasting cleanliness in the home. This is really true with baseboards. If you have dogs and kids or a high traffic area, a quick wipe down of the baseboards once a week will keep them clean for longer. If you have a spot that doesn’t see much, once a month is good.

On those high traffic areas, I do them once a week quickly. Then, I will do a more deep cleaning once a month or so. I have found this saves time in the long run keeping up with them like this!

I hope these baseboard cleaning tips come in handy for you, and you can finally keep them dust and debris free!
