Spring Cleaning on a Budget: How to Organize Your Linen Closet

Do you have any of those closets that seem to be super messy? I moved into my new place a couple of months ago, and now it's time to actually organize this linen closet. This is one area that I’m doing spring cleaning on a budget.

Clean out closets before buying new

So one tip I have as you begin to enter the new spring season is to clean out your closet before you buy anything new. Usually once a year, once a quarter, I will hit up Costco, do some major shopping, and all that jazz.

So before I go to Costco I am going through my linens, health stuff, all of that, and see what I actually need, what I can throw away, what I can give away.

An organized closet

I'm so excited. This just feels so much better, you guys. It’s much more organized because it has a system. It's labeled and super organized. It just feels so good. I will begin the linen closet tour from the beginning or the bottom.

Bedding shelf

So down here, I just have the extra bedding.

I try to have one pair of sheets for spring and summer and then one for fall and winter. So I have not switched my bedding yet. It's been really raining and cold here in Oregon, so I'll probably do that at the end of March and then just a few extra pillowcases when people come over or stay the night.

Towel shelf

Up here, I just have spare towels.

I use these when I go to the gym and want to shower at the gym. This is one of my spring projects, which is to hang all of these up.

Toilet paper shelf

Then I went to Costco, refilled, and got a huge pack of toilet paper.

That's definitely a necessity. I try to do maybe two to three trips to Costco a year. I don't do Costco too much just because I think it can really hit the budget. We can overspend. I don't even have a membership, so I go with a friend. It keeps me from overspending.

Next is the kind of basic necessities that I feel like always having on hand is good, or extra is nice.

Toiletries shelf

Down here, I've just got some dental care.

These little containers are from the Dollar Store. These were new this year. I thought they were really cute so when I moved in January, I picked them up. I just thought they were super adorable.

The labels I got on Amazon. So I've got dental care and soaps. I need to make a label for that one, I couldn't find anything, but this is just a kind of Q-tips cotton balls, facial tissues, etc. I did get a big pack of toothpaste.

First aid shelf

First aid shelf

Up here are just first aid items.

I have done wilderness first aid training for several years and have been certified in that. So I feel like always having a first aid kit is vital, not only in your house but in your car. And especially if you go outdoors, hiking, et cetera.

Then down here is just extra medicines. I do need to go through this. So this will probably be one extra project I will do in the springtime. Then I have so many COVID tests. Working in healthcare, a hospital, I got a lot of COVID tests.

Small appliance shelf

On the top shelf, I have a foot bath.

Kind of like you can put your foot in there or your feet in there and then soaking, put some essential oils, maybe like a mini pedicure from home, all of that.

Spring cleaning on a budget

This is the after, when I was done spring cleaning my closet.

So much toothpaste. This is toothpaste, and then this is mouthwash. When you're doing spring cleaning and starting to get into that mode, I highly encourage doing spring cleaning on a budget or setting a budget.

Spring cleaning on a budget

I think we can go overboard trying to be Pinterest-worthy of having everything perfect. It does not have to look perfect. Just do what works for you. Make it like a system that will be easy for you, your family, your kiddos, or whatever.

So you can grab and go and can refill easily. If you're doing your towels, you can throw them in. You got toilet paper, house supplies, all of that.

So anyway, I thought I would share a quick linen closet tour and how I did my spring cleaning on a budget. What do you do for spring cleaning to stay on budget? Comment below to share your ideas.

Wow. I’m amazed you just have two sets of sheets. Summer/winter. You must wash the sheets then put them back on the bed. Somehow I think one set might not work. What if you can’t do the wash in one day with so many other chores and work to tend to. I would think if you had a second set to put on the bed while the other set can wait a day or so before getting washed, that would help.

Yep that’s what do wash them and get them on before you go to bed… people have wayyy too much stuff a cluster I might add.

What containers did you get from dollar tree. I can't tell. U Said sm ones but I don't see

The ones from Dollar Tree would be the square cloth ones with a front facing handle. I believe she had the bedding in one, towels in one as well as toilet paper in one as well. They do come with a covered cardboard for inside the bottom for stability.
