Cutting hair

1. Don’t cut your own hair

Rather than go to the hairdresser a few months ago and spend some money, I decided to cut my own bangs. I searched for YouTube videos on how to cut bangs. I followed all the instructions on the video.

I also cut my hair when it was wet. The video didn’t mention that when hair is wet, it’s stretched so it’s longer than when it’s dry. I cut my bangs and when they dried, they were half an inch shorter than they were wet.

My fringe (or bangs) didn’t cover up my forehead lines and wrinkles as I’d hoped. Instead, they exposed them. My eyebrows showed, too, and in the most unflattering way.

So, don’t cut your hair when it’s wet or leave hair a little longer than you’d like when cutting it damp.

Sleeping

2. Don’t go with the cheapest price available

Cheapest isn’t always the best. We went away for a small break during the summer and selected a cheap budget hotel for our stay because it fit into our budget. There was a reason why it was cheap.

Shrieking seagulls landed on the window sill at 4:00 in the morning and the room above us had squeaky floors that kept us up all night. There were no other available rooms so we left a day early and came home.

One star review
Even when time is short, impulse purchases and plans should be researched. If I had done my research, I would have seen that this hotel was not recommended because it was old, noisy, and in dire need of remodeling.

Cake

3. Don’t rush around so much

Rushing around has cost me money because I was not aware of what was going on around me or I wasn’t thinking things through.

For example, I was making a lovely, expensive fruit cake with very little flour but a lot of fruit, nuts, and alcohol. It also called for a certain spice that I didn’t have. So I substituted allspice because I wanted to get the cake done. The spice was the wrong one for this cake and it ruined the whole thing.

The loaf was inedible so it, and the money I wasted, went into the garbage!

I should have slowed down, thought about how allspice would be wrong for this recipe, and instead, gone out to buy the right spice to finish the cake.

Wine

4. Don’t buy edible gifts for others too early

We bought wine and chocolates in October to give as gifts in December. But we had access to these gifts and ate and drank them! We had to repurchase gifts to give since we gave into our temptations.

Shoes

5. Don’t purchase shoes online

I saw a fantastic offer for shoes online. But when they arrived, they were incredibly uncomfortable. They had to be returned, which cost postage. You really need to try shoes on before buying.

I have purchased shoes on line in the same brand I wear often. I know which foot bed works best and how the sizes run. A safer way to buy shoes online.
