What to Do With Leftover Hamburger Buns: 6 Tasty Recipes

I don’t know about you but I am constantly trying to figure out what to do with leftover hamburger buns. We love eating burgers in my family, but there’s always at least one or two buns left over that just loiter in the refrigerator until they get stale and need to be thrown away.

I wanted to figure out some fun ways to repurpose the leftover buns so they don’t go to waste.

Guess what? Hamburger buns can be used for lots of things aside from burgers. Here are some great alternatives I found for making good use of leftover hamburger buns.

Breakfast muffins

1. Breakfast muffins

Base a breakfast off your leftover bun by turning it into a breakfast muffin. Cut open the bun and toast it. Prepare a couple of slices of ham, half an avocado, and some shredded cheese.

Take the toasted buns and spread the avocado on the bun like butter. Then place one slice of ham on each half of the bun and place the scrambled eggs on top. Sprinkle the shredded cheese over the top and you have a gorgeous and nutritious breakfast.

Chicken burger

2. Chicken burger

A chicken burger makes a great lunch or dinner. Slice the bun in half and put a chicken patty on it. Add a slice of cheese, some lettuce, and coleslaw and that’s it. You have a delicious meal.

Garlic bread

3. Garlic bread

For this delicious and simple snack, slice open the bun and toast it. Take some garlic and sea salt-flavored butter and melt approximately 20 grams.

Once it’s melted, brush it onto the bread for some yummy garlic bread to snack on. If you don’t have garlic and sea salt butter you can either cook some fresh garlic, or you can use garlic powder with regular butter.

Personal pizza

4. Personal pizza

Slice open the bun and toast it. Place the toasted bun on an oven or toaster oven tray. Spread some tomato sauce on each slice. Sprinkle some sliced ham, pineapple pieces, and shredded cheese on the buns.

Put it in the oven for 5 minutes and you have delicious pizza with a variety of nutrients and flavors.

Toasted sandwich

5. Toasted sandwich

Slice open the bun and spread butter on both halves. Place a slice of cheese and a slice of ham on one side of the bun.

Add a few pieces of cut-up pineapple, close the sandwich, and place it in the sandwich maker. If you don’t have a sandwich maker you can fry it in a pan with some butter.

Bread crumbs

6. Bread crumbs

Bread crumbs are always convenient to have around the house. Slice open the bun and put it in the oven for a few minutes until it is well-toasted. Then take the bun out and leave it to cool.

Once cooled, put it in the food processor. If you don’t have a food processor you can use a grater and simply grate it, and that will work just as well. Put it in a storage container and the next time you are using a recipe that calls for breadcrumbs you can use your very own homemade breadcrumbs.

When it comes to leftover food you have to think outside the box. Hamburger buns don’t have to be used just for hamburgers. There are so many other great meals you can prepare with them. Get the most out of your leftovers to save money and avoid waste.
