3 Easy Tips on How I Organize Home Projects

I recently decided that my bedroom needs a bit of an upgrade. Since I don’t have a large budget to work with, I need to plan and organize each step to maximize what I have.

Organizing your home projects before you begin is a must if you’re looking to avoid stress and stay within a tight budget. Read on to learn how I organize home projects.

1. Big picture first: Plan the whole room

Whenever I decorate a room, I always make a full plan before I purchase or change anything. That way I avoid impulsively buying things that look pretty in the store but won’t necessarily go with the rest of the room. I make a list of all the updates and changes I want to make.

I make a checklist with the larger items first, followed by the details. I take care of the larger and more expensive items first and sit with them for a bit before bringing in the details. I do this because the little details might not end up being necessary once the big stuff is taken care of.

2. Big-ticket items: Decide on expensive items first

I really wanted to replace all the furniture in my bedroom. My bedroom set is dark wood furniture which was all artificially manufactured and coming apart.

Replacing it all would be too expensive so I am refinishing it instead. I prefer solid wood so I decided I will replace the tops of the highly visible items, which are the nightstands and the desk. Those are the pieces showing the most wear and tear.

I also decided I would need to update the headboard by adding wood to the top. I got some wood for free from my church and they even cut it to size for me for free. I am going to paint all the wood black. I wanted the wood more for durability than aesthetics. I plan to paint the headboard, footboard, and dresser gray.

3. The details: Plan out all the pretty accents

I decided to replace all the handles and hardware on the furniture as well, so I counted how many I needed. This helped me get a better understanding of what I would be spending.

Next, I had to decide on things like wall décor, bedding, and curtains. While you may need to invest more in the big-ticket items, it’s easier to get away with the cheaper quality for the accents which are easier to replace if needed.

Desk

I’m going to be sewing new pillowcases for my throw pillows. I also plan to replace the desk chair which is bulky and not very attractive. I will be replacing my curtains as well.
