My tissue box hacks were born out of necessity. As a mother of two, I can't imagine my life without facial tissues. As a result, we always have a few of these boxes lying around our house.

I came up with some creative ways to use the boxes, and today I'm sharing with you twelve tips on how you can make the most of cardboard tissue boxes.

Kitchen trash bags storage

1. Kitchen trash bags storage

Usually, when we need a new trash bag, we have to mess with the roll the bags come on. It can be tedious, especially when we are in a hurry. You can make your life easier by turning an empty tissue box into a trash bag dispenser. Simply place a trash bag roll inside the box, and you are done. You just reach in and quickly grab a trash bag.

Double tissues

2. Double tissues

This next tip is for thrifty people. Often all we need is just a half of a tissue. So instead of wasting a whole tissue sheet, use this trick. Simply take the tissues out of the box and cut them in half with a sharp knife or a paper knife. Place the two piles back inside the tissue box and cut two holes on top of it.

DIY drawer dividers

3. DIY drawer dividers

You can make a budget-friendly drawer divider out of empty tissue boxes. Get rid of the plastic. Cut the corners of the tissue box, tape the side of the box to the walls of the box, and it's done. You can store anything there you want. They are for keeping things neat and organized anywhere, even in smaller drawers.

DIY funny party game

4. A DIY funny party game

I'm going to teach you how to play a game that will make your party more fun. Attach a long piece of rope or wide ribbon to the bottom of the tissue boxes. Fill a bunch of empty tissue boxes with small miscellaneous items. Then tie one of the boxes to each of the backs of the players.

What they have to do is to try to empty the box faster than the other players by jumping up and down to get the items to fall out. It's a silly fun game that will set a positive mood at your next gathering.

2-in-1 hack

5. A 2-in-1 hack

When you are feeling under the weather and constantly blowing your nose, your nightstand ends up covered with used tissue. It isn't pretty. Just keep an empty tissue box next to the regular box with the tissues in it.

That way, after using a tissue, you can dispose of it right away. It's more sanitary, and you don't have to get out of bed to throw your tissue away.

Receipt storage hack

6. Receipt storage hack

If you have a pile of receipts that you need to keep but can't figure out where to put them, use an empty tissue box. Label the box Receipts, so you know exactly what's inside. Now your receipts have their place, and you know where to find them.

Storing grocery bags

7. Storing grocery bags

It's handy to store grocery bags in a tissue box like this. Instead of the mountain of plastic grocery bags growing in your kitchen cabinet, a tissue box holds a lot and makes it easy to pull them out as needed. You can mount the tissue box to the inside of a cabinet with double stick tape.

Game for toddlers

8. A game for toddlers (please only under adult supervision)

For this little tip, we are going to create a game for the little ones, except you don't have to do anything. It's already done. Give your toddler an empty box of tissues and a bunch of lids to put inside the box.

This game helps your toddler to develop fine motor skills. In case you have guests that brought their little kids with them, you can always try this hack to entertain them, at least for a little while.

DIY piggy bank

9. DIY piggy bank

Have you ever been trying to save up for something new? Here is a tip. You can use an empty tissue box as a piggy bank. It's as simple as that. You can jazz it up with contact paper or washi tape, or if you already have a pretty design, leave it as it is.

Bathroom trash can

10. Bathroom trash can

You can use tissue boxes for trash in your bathroom or on your dressing table. Dispose of Q-tips, cotton balls, and so on in the tissue box. It's the perfect size for small items you use for first aid or applying and removing makeup.

A trash can for a car

11. A trash can for a car

You can also use a tissue box for trash in your car. Give each passenger their own box for trash, then all they have to do when they exit the car is to throw out one box instead of gathering trash. That way, your car won't turn into a dumpster during a trip.

Tissue box hacks

12. Organizer for miscellaneous things

If you take two tissue boxes and cut one of them to form four compartments that act as dividers, then place those dividers inside another tissue box that has the top cut off, you get a small organizer for various things.

Obviously, when I have a cold or other, I keep an active cubed box of tissue next to an empty. One to blow, one to stow. As a teacher with many boxes of empty tissue per week or month, I recycle the boxes into pen or pencil receptacles, bathroom pass boxes, boxes to sort/differentiate sizes of water color brushes, colored pencil sorters and so on. They don't last long, but long enough to do the job until the next empty box presents itself.

I used to have pet gerbils and they loved the cube tissue boxes....the small hole to squeeze into like a burrow and space inside to nest. I'd remove the small soft plastic insert round the hole though. They loved having individual bedrooms and eventually they'd chew them to pieces, by which time another one was ready. They also liked to climb on top of them and were so excited to receive a new box. 😊
