7 Ways to Declutter Your Life in Time For Summer

If you have been wanting to declutter your life but putting it off, summer is the perfect time to finally do it. Here are seven ideas on what areas of your life to target in your summer decluttering session so that you can enjoy the summer more and be more at peace. Let’s get started with our summer declutter!

1. Winter clothes

This is a great opportunity to go through all the winter clothes you still have in your closet. Which items did you wear? Which ones did you not? Which ones did you like less? Which ones were not comfortable? Which ones did not fit?

Thinking like this about all your winter attire will help you visualize all your belongings and figure out what you should get rid of, freeing up some space in your wardrobe.

2. Summer clothes

With the same exact question you used for winter clothes, take a look at your summer clothes and figure out what does not work for you anymore.

This way, you will know exactly what is in your wardrobe, and as soon as you get out of bed in the morning, you will know exactly what you want to wear and what combinations you can make with different things. This will make your morning routine so much easier.

Moreover, it will help you identify any gaps in your wardrobe so you know exactly what things you might need to purchase. Are you missing some more summer tops? Are you missing some skirt options? Think about what it is you might be missing from your wardrobe.

3. Children's school items

This may not be relevant for everybody, but if you have a child, the summer holidays are a great opportunity to make sure that all equipment is sorted and get rid of all the old stuff they do not need anymore.

If you have some old-school books lying around that you do not want to keep, put them straight in the recycling so that they do not add to the clutter around your house. This is your opportunity to do a reset before fall.

4. The garden

The summer is the perfect time to freshen up your garden. Go through your shed and get rid of anything you do not need, make sure that all the plants are alive, and get any excess furniture out of the way. Get your garden nice and ready to be used so you can get the most out of your space.

Also, take a look at your front garden if you have one, and make sure that your driveway area is all clear and tidy to have easy access for your adventures.

5. The garage

Why is summer the best time to take care of your garage? The reason is simple: summer is a great time to have a car boot sale or a yard sale to get rid of anything that you do not want to keep. So go through those boxes that you have been storing there and see if there is anything that you could sell to make some extra money.

6. Digital declutter

First, take a look at your social media. Do you have any social media accounts that you do not really need to use, but spend too much time on? Can you limit yourself? Do you have too many apps?

Decide what you could do in this regard this summer to make sure you are present in every moment with your friends and family or with yourself.

You could also look through your emails and click that unsubscribe button on any email newsletters that you do not want to receive anymore. This way, you are not cluttering up your inbox and you can really see what is important to you when it comes in.

7. Schedule

Summer is the time to slow down and be more purposeful. Perhaps you will want to reduce the number of different activities you do, and you might then want to carry this over into winter as well.

If you have an intense cleaning routine, could you make it simpler or rearrange it so that it only takes one day and you have more free time for the rest of the week? This way, you can get out and enjoy the long summer evenings. You want to maximize your time doing the things that you enjoy and the things that make you happy.

Get rid of anything that is bringing you down or not making you feel good – cut any social activities you do not really want to go to, and any unnecessary tasks that are not urgent. Have a nice, slow, intentional summer, and see how you feel at the end of it.

  • Hi Jack, where are you based? There are lots of decluttering services popping up in the UK and America. It is worth searching for decluttering services rather than cleaning.
