How to Earn Passive Income From Digital Products - 7 Product Ideas

I will share with you seven ways to make passive income with digital products. Digital products are a great way to make passive income.

Trying to figure out what types of digital products to sell online is easy once an idea resonates with you, so here are seven to get you started.

Creating online courses

1. Online courses

If you are an expert in a certain subject matter, or if you know more than a beginner, you can package your knowledge and experience in a course to make passive income online.

It took me a few weeks to create my first online course. It entails recording lectures and creating materials for teaching.

Then promote your courses on platforms like Udemy, Skillshare, and Skill Success. If you have an email list, sell directly to them or use platforms like Teachable or Kajabi to host your course and sell it directly.

Creating templates as digital products

2. Templates

Some great examples of templates include wedding invitations, digital planners, and resume templates. People with a related background can also sell legal, accounting, and bookkeeping templates.

Many influencers sell budget templates. Just create them once to sell over and over. Etsy is a great platform to sell templates, but you can also sell templates on Creative Market and Canva.

Selling lightroom presets

3. Lightroom presets

If you wonder why influencers on Instagram, for example, have very pretty, cohesive grids, it’s because they use lightroom presets to create those backgrounds.

If you have a photography background or an artistic eye for backgrounds, this could be good for you to sell on Etsy or Creative Market.

Selling stock photos and videos

4. Stock photos and videos

If you are passionate about photography and videography and you travel a lot, this is a great idea.

You can sell your work on Shutterstock, Getty Images, and Canva. I use a lot of stock footage in my videos to spice them up or fill in gaps. There’s definitely a demand for this kind of digital product.

Digital art and printables

5. Digital art and printables

This is a very competitive field but if you have unique pieces, you can be very successful. Basically, you can design a cool piece of art and sell it on Etsy as a downloadable file.

The person who bought the file then prints it out in any size to use usually as framed artwork. It can be a cheaper way of purchasing art.

Creating content for members

6. Memberships and subscriptions

This takes extra work to create. If you have a community or platform where you consistently create exclusive content that you’re not posting publicly on YouTube, you can sell a membership to your audience.

You may have heard of Patreon where you contribute money to a creator and gain access to exclusive content. Fitness influencers also have their own subscription fitness apps for exclusive workouts and tips.

Selling music online

7. Music

You can sell your music online. There’s always a demand for copyright-free music, especially for YouTube creators who need background music. Platforms like CD Baby, Music Distribution, or TuneCore are great ways to sell your music. In exchange, you earn royalties.

Passive income from digital products

My advice is to consider your background and passions to find the right fit for a passive income selling digital products online. There’s so much demand for these items.

If you’ve ever purchased a paid subscription to any YouTuber or influencer/creator, please let me know in the comments because I’m super curious.

I am a "Patreon" member of several creators as well as a paid member of other creators who manage their own paid memberships. I am quite selective about who I support, however there are so many more I would love to help I just have limited funds :/ The people who create video content work very hard -- its time consuming, they need a lot of technical skills and an ability to manage their time on top of developing regular creative content. They deserve all the help we can give them. For some I realize this is a "side hustle" however for others the income they receive from their creative content and memberships is their primary financial contribution to their family. Its not an easy task to have content ready on a scheduled basis -- even if they are the ones making the decision to do so!
