A Budget Friendly Linen Closet Makeover

Lately I have had the urge to purge and organize around our home. My first victim was our hall closet and it felt so good to get it organized. I was so pleased that I just had to share it with you all. So today’s post is all about how I did a budget friendly linen closet makeover with items I already had on hand.

I am so excited to share all of my simple tips and tricks with you.

A Budget Friendly Linen Closet Makeover

Friends, this linen closet makeover took me all of 30 minutes and I challenged myself to use items that I already had on hand.

You heard that right, 30 minutes!

I had to get a bit creative but the best part is that I spent $0!

Can I get an amen?!

The Before of Our Linen Closet Makeover

Below is the cringe worthy but very real BEFORE picture of our crazy and messy linen closet. This hall linen closet is located upstairs by all of our bedrooms and gets a lot of use! I promise it was organized at one point in time but like all of us life happens.

Organizing Your Linen Closet

Now for a few of my tips and tricks on how to complete a budget friendly linen closet makeover.

  • Start fresh! Take everything out and start with an empty slate.
  • Once you have taken everything out sort your things into three piles (keep, trash, and donate). Take the time to evaluate what items you really use and need. Remember to breathe because this part of the process can be overwhelming. But trust me, it feels so good at the end!
  • Get Creative with storage containers and don’t be afraid to shop your house! As you can see in the picture below I reused several of the tubs I originally had in my closet.

This will help keep this makeover budget friendly! I also snagged a fun brown oval shaped woven basket from my storage closet. I love the texture it adds and it fits perfectly on my shelves. It’s pretty and functional …a win win combo in my book!

The smaller square baskets were from the dollar store and had been sitting above our washing machine unused for years. The cute blue and white ticking stripe baskets I found last year on clearance from Bed Bath and Beyond and were previously in my personal closet not being used. (I always have good intentions when I purchase storage items!)

Label, Label, Label

  • Label with everyday items. I don’t know about you but keeping my sheets organized is always a nightmare! We have 4 different bed sizes in our home. So this time I simply grabbed some clothespins and a sharpie and wrote bed sizes on each pin. Then I clipped them to the corresponding tubs and instantly I felt better about the whole sheet situation.

  • Finally, be ruthless and practical!

Remember, less is more and only put back in your linen closet the absolute necessities. For us that was sheets, toilet paper, extras of our favorite Sun Bum shampoo that we scored at 60% off on Black Friday 🙂 and of course our tub of medical items.

Loving Our Budget Friendly Linen Closet Makeover

After 30 minutes I was absolutely in love with our newly made over linen closet! I didn’t spend a dime and it felt so good to be organized. I have been showing it off to anyone who comes over!

It’s the little things, right?! Hopefully I have inspired you. Right after this I tackled the bedroom closet my two girls share. It was another great closet makeover that had an amazing before and after.

I seriously might be addicted to budget friendly closet organizing now.

I love how you used items that you already owned, and writing the bed size on a wooden clothes pin is genius. But I think you forgot to mention one of the biggest issues of a linen closet & that’s the towels. We have so many different sizes. From beach towels to bath and hand towels and even the wash clothes.

do you have any suggestions for the towels?

    thank you in advance.😊
