This micro apartment design by Olga Bondar shows that minimalist living can be chic. Located in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, this tiny apartment of 344 square feet makes smart use of compact apartment interior design in order to maximize space and functionality.

Note: This video was filmed before the invasion of Ukraine and Olga Bondar, the designer, hopes it will inspire support for the beleaguered nation.

Located in a modern high-rise in what was once an area of warehouses, this micro-apartment is part of a larger story of urban renewal. The apartment is part of a complex that includes residential buildings, parks, and coffee shops.

The theme colors of pale blue, yellow, and pink are contrasted with a base of white and gray that creates a sense of space. A yellow accent window in the kitchen creates a sense of warm sunlight.

The main room includes a kitchen, living, and dining area. There is a low-backed couch with a mirror behind it and a wall-mounted TV that looks like a hanging painting when not in use. These features create a sense of space and minimize clutter.

The kitchen has a hidden dishwasher, induction hobs, and an oven, as well as a hidden fridge that blends into the white cabinets. A shelf above the sink provides space for displaying personal items.

The small dining area includes a high table and two barstools. The table separates the living room and kitchen, and also acts as a work area for a home office.

This compact apartment design maximizes the small space by changing some of the internal walls: turning the loggia, a semi-enclosed terrace, into a bedroom; extending the bedroom towards the internal hallway; and extending the bathroom wall to accommodate a fridge on the other side.

The bedroom includes a custom-made bed with under-bed storage space for linens. There’s a walk-in closet with floor-to-ceiling shelving and a curtain that can be drawn in order to “close” the closet.

The bathroom includes tapware built into the wall to allow more space for the wash basin, a built-in closet, and a floating toilet to give an increased sense of space.

a very, very small apartment but at the same time very nicely decorated including very nice accommodations to include all the functions needed in an apartment. Great job!

  • It would be New York City affordable where you would be lucky to own this much square footage! But when you see where it is and realize that the Russian Monster Putin has bombed, ravaged & killed the innocent Ukrainian citizens & destroyed their beloved cities & towns, that is the tearful & heartbreaking reality which Putin has selfishly forced on the Ukraine. Olga created beauty and shared her ideas, only to have the jealous Putin ravage Kyiv 12 days later with his senseless war & his warped sense of entitlement to ANNEX another part of Ukraine for his obsessive greed driven desire to grab up other innocent countries for his sick pleasure to make himself look big & important! This example of the good of Olga & her well meaning & the shear evil which more than likely is in rubble should make the world realize the dire need to SUPPORT THE UKRAINE however you can, so that they know they are cared for! 💛💙💛💙👍️
