Want to learn how to become a minimalist fast? The Minimal Mom discusses the mental roadblocks that get in the way of decluttering. She also shares three tips to combat them and continue your journey to minimalism.

The first tip is that more isn’t more. Let’s say you are on the road, grabbing messy takeout food with the family. You want to eat it, but you don’t have a fork. At that moment, a fork is extremely valuable to you, since it’s exactly the tool you need.

Still, as valuable as one fork is, you still just need one, two forks aren’t more valuable to you than one. Having more doesn’t add extra value. Sometimes it’s actually the opposite; adding more detracts from the value of an item because now you have more inventory to manage and care for.

Another tip for how to be a minimalist is that you have to be ready to accept the risks involved in downsizing. When it comes to forks, getting rid of the excess forks in your kitchen means you might not have enough on the rare occasion that you host a party. You may need to borrow or buy.

How many forks do you need?

To be a minimalist, you have to accept the risk that you might not always have the perfect thing. You have to understand the benefits of minimalism far outweighs the risks.

A lack of motivation can also make it hard to start the minimalist journey. A third tip is to keep the goal in front of you when you are working to downsize. Use a post-it note or another system. Make sure you have your goals and reasons stated and clear to you.

So the heading was 3 amazing hacks to help you declutter . . . only saw one tip on how to become a minimalist in a week. Fail to see the connection. I have no desire to become a minimalist, I like my stuff and want to keep all of my silverware but I moved to a smaller home and am looking for tips to declutter - this was not helpful at all.
