Jamie from The Crafty DIY Guy is going to spill some Goodwill shopping secrets. He shows you some items he picked up from Goodwill and what he did with them.

To get the best Goodwill tips and tricks from your store, go to one that’s located on the border of a great neighborhood and one that also has a donation center for the best selection–and go mid-week for the best items.

Jamie suggests having an idea of what you’re looking for before you go.

For example, he spotted a round decor object and a plain glass plate, both items that cost .99 cents that he already had in mind for DIY Goodwill projects. He suggests spray paint, chalk paint, or Mod Podge to give a bland, plain piece some color and texture.

He also suggests keeping an eye out for items that are expensive in craft stores like Hobby Lobby or HomeGoods. One example is a somewhat dingy round wooden cutting board he scored at Goodwill that he’s spotted at craft stores for $15 or more!

He washed it and massaged mineral oil into the cutting board to revive it. And, it looks just like the ones at the craft stores. Anytime you find a wooden item at Goodwill, rub mineral oil on it to rejuvenate and brighten the finish.

Jamie grabbed a new $2.99 glass container with the HomeGoods price tag still on it (for $16.99), cleaned it up, and turned it into a terrarium for his patio.

You can transform just about anything you find at Goodwill with a little TLC, paint, and mineral oil for wood. Don’t worry if you find something that looks beaten up–it’s easy to bring it back to life.
