Shopping at BJ’s saves me a ton of money every year. You don’t have to shop bulk to enjoy the benefits and you can save money too! We genuinely love shopping at BJ’s and wanted to share with you all just how awesome it is.

In case you are not familiar with BJ’s per se, they are exactly like Costco and Sam’s Club. Same vibe, same great savings. I guess, depending on where you live, you’ll find a wholesale club like BJ’s.

Now, You Can Save Money Shopping At BJ’s

I’ve been a member for years and I always find great ways to save money – and you can too! And, who doesn’t love discovering new ways to save money? I know I do. That’s why I’m sharing my tips and advice for shopping there and saving while you do. Plus, I’ll show you my favorite list of products to get there too.

Membership at BJ’s pays for itself the very time you shop there. Every year, there is an enrollment membership fee that costs about $50. I promise you, it pays for itself. They also have so many other perks attached to the membership. They offer a BJ’s credit card too as well as lots of discounted travel opportunities.

Be sure to look for a trial membership. They are awesome and give you two months of free shopping! Don’t worry! If you don’t have a BJ’s near you, you can still save shopping online. It’s my favorite place to shop and save!

So let’s get to it!

1 – Bulk Products! You don’t have to buy huge bulk items. They do have larger sized products but not everything you get there has to come in cases – not by far! If you are not in the market for bulk products keep an eye out for the size that suits you and your families needs. The only bulk products I get from BJ’s are paper products. Don’t imagine yourself pushing a pallet of groceries around. I use a shopping cart – albeit a large one when I shop and do just fine!

2 – Gas – Yes, You can save a lot of cash filling up your tank at BJ’s. We always save at least 40 cents a gallon and at times even more! At the end of the day, that adds up to saving a lot. So, don’t forget you can get gas there too!

3 – Coupons – One of the reasons I save a lot at BJ’s is because they allow you to not only use their coupons – which are always terrific – but they let you also use coupons manufacturer coupons as well. You can even combine them and get double savings! So, if I have a $3 BJ’s coupon for something, I can also use a $1 off coupon with it and save another dollar. How fab is that? I also check out website’s prior to shopping there and print out all the coupons for products I know I’m going to get that day. Works every time and saves me loads!

4 – Purchase the store brands – BJ’s features their own brand which is called Berkley & Jensen. Not only do you save money by buying them, but the quality is excellent! As a matter of fact, I prefer Berkley & Jensen products over store brands. Be sure to check them out when you are shopping next time.

5 – Stock up on household staples – When it comes to products like laundry detergent, fabric softener, garbage bags, paper towels, toilet paper – well, you get the point – it’s amazing how much money you can save by buying these in bulk. You can use a funnel to decant them into regular-size containers that are easy to use. I like that idea as well as it cuts down on my recycling every week and I get to repurpose plastic too which always makes me feel amazing!

6 – Buy bulk meat – You would be shocked at the saving we get when we buy our meat in bulk. And I’m not talking about a pallet of meat either. We get chicken breasts in bulk – they normally come around 6 or 8 in a pack and you can separate them individually for freezing too. BJ’s packages them that way for convenience and that one pack can last us for well over a month. We do the same for other meats as well. And with a stocked freezer, you’re less prone to order pricey takeout. It’s always a win-win.

7 – Avoid the middle aisles – Like most traditional supermarkets, the best buys are around the perimeter. For instance, organic milk, eggs, and sliced bread are often substantially cheaper at a club store. The center section is where random impulse buys lurk, like pajamas, toys, and books. The deals are good there so be sure to walk by and check them out – it’s a good idea to know that’s where they house impulse items.

8 – Master the science of unit pricing – Put simply, this is the way to tell whether a bulk purchase (say, a 15-roll pack of toilet paper) actually saves you money versus buying each item. Just because something is sold in bulk doesn’t guarantee a good deal. It’s up to you to determine that through careful comparison shopping. In the end, no matter where you buy, you want to pay the lowest price possible per ounce, quart, roll, whatever.

9 – Stay for lunch or dinner – If you don’t mind pizza, hot dogs, or sub sandwiches on the occasion, the prices in the in-store cafes are generally absurdly low. A quick bite makes the outing a little more fun, especially because when we shop, it always makes us hungry! I think it’s OK to eat junk food on the occasion and if choose carefully, you can create a healthy sandwich for yourself too!

10 – Take advantage of seasonal savings – When the end-of-year holidays come around, BJ’s offer phenomenal prices on anything seasonal. I always find amazing deals the week of a holiday and especially after it. I’ve gotten up to and over a 75% discount!

Also, here are some additional tips for shopping at BJ’s!

  • Prices ending in .99 are regularly priced.
  • Prices ending in .90 or .00 are manager markdowns.

BJ’s also uses special number codes in the top middle of the price tag.

  • 1: Regular item, will be restocked
  • 2: Discontinued item, will not be restocked. These will sometimes be discounted after a period of time.
  • 7: One-time buy, will not be restocked. These products are generally seasonal.
  • 9: Will be sent back to the manufacturer and not restocked.

With a receipt, you can return most unused items within 1 year of purchase. I’ve returned products without a receipt too. They are pretty good about that.

BJ’s Wholesale Club Offers a price adjustment if the prices change within 30 days of purchase.

Make a list…and stick to it!

I cannot tell you how many times I’ve just popped into a store for a couple of things and have come out spending way more money than I meant to. Making a list saves you from unnecessary purchases.

Oh, and don’t forget to bring your own bags!

Ask always ask for rainchecks if they are out of an item.

You will not find a deal like that anywhere!

Those are just some of the products, produce, and groceries I get at BJ’s. There are literally hundreds of thousands of products at BJ’s. It’s changed the way I shop too. I don’t have to run to the store constantly for products I use all the time so it saves my gas bill too – and time too of course! I hope you get to enjoy shopping at BJ’s too.
