How to Declutter Your Kitchen in One Hour

I am going to show you how to declutter a kitchen as I attack the second part of my kitchen. I was already decluttering one part of my kitchen, but I needed to finish it. The kitchen is not nearly as cluttered as the rest of my house because I didn't have any furniture to sell in here, and my husband keeps up with cleaning it.

So it's just kind of our day-to-day clutter. You know, the lunch boxes, and I went to the grocery store yesterday and didn't quite get everything put away and that kind of stuff.

I have really been procrastinating today. I don't know what's gotten into me today, but I am determined to declutter my kitchen today. So, let's see how much of my kitchen I can get done in one hour. I've set my timer for an hour.

I have my donation box and my black trash bag. If you haven't heard about this method of decluttering, check out the books Decluttering at the Speed of Life and Minimalist Home.

1. Pots and pans

My grandmother recently moved into an assisted living facility. Since she no longer cooked, I was super thrilled to get all of her older pots and pans.

They're all from the 60s and 70s. They are excellent quality heavy-duty pans, and I just can't get rid of them. It's really hard to find that kind of quality pots and pans that are in my price range. That's a lot to keep for the RV.

Plus, there's one other pot that I know. Scott likes to cook with cast iron, and I don't because it's kind of a pain to season and clean. But I may have to learn because that's a lot. I'll talk to him tonight.

You can definitely tell the places in my house I have organized and the places in my house that I haven't. When I open my pantry, you will see it still looks organized. I haven't touched this.

2. Cleaning products

So we pretty much only use DoTerra's cleaner. So, I have a whole cabinet in my laundry room of cleaning stuff that I can get rid of. The only other thing that I use is floor cleaner, but I pretty much use this to clean everything else.

3. Other kitchen items

I keep one vase for flowers because my girls like to bring me flowers. Although I guess I could use my family's milk jug. I think I like the milk jug better. I'm going to use the milk jug for flowers.

We don't use paper towels in the house, but these are emergency stash for if the kids get sick and there is a stomach bug running around the house or some things you just want to be able to clean up and throw away. So we have an emergency stash of paper towels.

This apartment has the tiniest kitchen drawers ever, which has been a big problem for us. It is so satisfying to finally be able to close the drawer without stuffing things in and shoving it closed.

All right, so I only set the timer for 45 minutes because I needed to give myself time to wake up the little ones before I had to go get the big kids.

So, I am going to attempt to attack the spice cabinet at that time, but it's pretty bad, and I may need Scott to do it because he's the one who likes all the unusual spices.

Okay, take that back. I opened the spice cabinet, but Scott's really got to do it. He's the one I like to cook, but he's the fancy cook.

4. What I accomplished

So, I am going to show you what I did in 40 minutes, and I still think I kept too much. I'm going to have to see what fits, and I may just have to learn to cook on iron skillets. Scott loves it. So, and they're 100-year-old skillets, so they're excellent skillets.

But the other pots and pans I have are antiques as well, and I love them. So, let me show you what I did. I'm super shocked at what I got rid of in 40 minutes, but I know I can do more.

I have two overflowing ginormous boxes of donations and one bag of trash, and I have one started here, so that'll kind of fall over, but I'm going to, got like two minutes before I have to wake up the little ones. So I'm really shocked at what I was able to get done in just about 40 minutes.

I'm going to get this stuff to the car so I can get it to the Donate place immediately, and I'm not tempted to pull stuff out of it because kitchens are kind of hard for me.

I then did my upper cabinets in my kitchen section one video, and I think a lot of it's going to be just having to figure out what fits and what's not. When you're cooking for six people every day, it's sometimes a little difficult to figure out what to keep and what not to keep.

I just started to clear my kitchen clutter. I plan to do kitchen over and don't want to have the extras in the new kitchen. I have way too much and don't cook as much any more due to disability. My old pots and pans are too heavy and too many and way too many spices. I am so on it.

I have a very neat and clean, thoroughly Marie Kondo cleared, home, but I love to cook and have spent over half a century putting together a very good collection of pots, pans, knives, ceramic, tinned molds, and more. It is too much to store in cabinets and drawers. So I have open shelves, a wall mounted bar for hanging things, and a metal etagere. The things I use are both displayed and easily accessible. Of course it helps that a lot of it is shiny old copper.
