It’s time to declutter your kitchen. The Minimal Mom has some tips to share to show you how to declutter and redecorate a kitchen with thrifted items. Let’s get started.

To get started, find a spot in your kitchen that is just not working. A spot that, no matter how hard you try to keep it organized, just doesn’t function well. Look at the stuff in the spot.

Remember what stuff is. Stuff is inanimate objects. Stuff doesn’t have feelings or emotions. Stuff is meant to be used and to be useful. It is supposed to have a purpose. Even decor is stuff with a purpose — its purpose is for you to enjoy it and enjoy how it looks.

When it comes to the stuff cluttering up the more dysfunctional areas of your kitchen, ask yourself, “Is this item serving me? Does it make my life easier? Am I glad I own it?”

If the answer to these questions is no, then there is no reason to keep it. Stuff is supposed to serve you, not the other way around.

How to declutter your kitchen

Sometimes we feel bad or guilty about getting rid of stuff that was expensive or that was given to us as a gift, even if it’s not functioning and isn’t serving us. That’s a bit illogical.

We are letting it take up precious cabinet space, while it sits there, unused. Why not donate it and let someone else use and enjoy it? We don’t have room for the things that aren’t serving us.

That question can help you to declutter your kitchen. What about decorating it? A colorful kitchen looks fresh, bright, and natural. But, how do you add color without it overwhelming the space and keep things looking balanced?

The first tip for adding color is to make a zigzag pattern with the accent color. That helps it balance just right.

The second tip is to follow the 60%-30%-10% rule. This rule states that 60% of the color in the room should match the dominant color, 30% should match the secondary color, and 10% should match the accent color.
