Christmas is a magical season. It can be one of the best times of the year. But, Christmas can also bring stress and expenses with it. These hacks can help make Christmas easier and cheaper so celebrators can focus on the magical parts and not the stressful parts. Here’s how to save money at Christmas.

there’s no need for a special wreath just for Christmas. It’s not that hard to swap out the ribbons and garlands on a wreath, and change it every season.

To save money at Christmas, there are some decor items that can be easily and cheaply made at home. To make beautiful, large, signature paper stars, glue together eight brown paper lunch bags, alternating which way they are oriented – up or down. Then, cut the top into a point, cut shapes out of the sides, and pull them open like an accordion.

Another homemade decor piece can be made by thinly slicing oranges and then roasting them in the oven until they are totally dried out. These oranges can spice up a garland, and can be stored for years in an airtight bag. And, they are so beautiful.

One way to save money at Christmas is to swap instead of buy when it comes to decorating. Instead of buying lots of knickknacks and garlands, look at what there already is in the house, and think about ways to make it festive.

For example, swap out the throw pillows and blanket on the sofa, for red, or Christmas-themed pillows. This can save both time and money.

Think about which are investment pieces. For example, instead of getting a cheap tinsel garland that will go in the garbage on January first, buy a slightly pricier, classy, evergreen garland that is robust enough to save from year to year.

To create a festive ambiance, use a simmer pot. Fill the pot with a small amount of water, and toss in any aromatics that are lying around: oranges, lemons, cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, evergreens, rosemary, or anything else that has a nice smell. Put the pot on the stove on the lowest setting. It makes the whole house smell so good!
