Can Aluminum Foil Go in the Oven? Here's What You're Doing Wrong

Tawra from Living On A Dime To Grow Rich has talked to an appliance expert and learned some unexpected ways that we might have been ruining our ovens. Let’s take a look!

Can aluminum foil go in the bottom of the oven? Many people line the bottom of the oven with aluminum foil to stop it from staining.

Apparently, you should not have anything on the bottom of the oven as it traps the excessive heat, both ruining the enamel coating of the oven and making the temperatures unreliable. Instead, just clean your oven on a more regular basis.

Should we use the self-cleaning option? The appliance expert is a bit skeptical about that one, but using it is okay as long as you are very careful.

Never leave the house while the oven is in self-cleaning mode, and try to scrape out the big lumps before you run the self-cleaning option.

Most importantly, do not use oven cleaners and then the self-cleaning option, as that creates poisonous fumes. Instead, mix baking soda with water turning it into a thick paste, rub it in, let it sit, and then just wet sponge it back out. Also, with the self-cleaning option, let it cool down before you try to open it.

Cleaning an oven

Are oven cleaners safe in general? Unless you are using the self-cleaning oven option, you should be fine. Obviously, follow the instructions, do not leave it in over the recommended amount of time, and carefully clean it out with a wet rag or a sponge.

Overall, if you want a safe and clean oven, just clean it more often. If you see a stain, take care of it right away, and it will definitely save you a lot of time in the long term.
