15 Quick & Easy Ideas For a 15-Minute Declutter

Today I want to share 15 quick and easy decluttering ideas you can accomplish in a 15-minute declutter. Sometimes these small wins give us the best motivation and momentum to continue.

If we succeed with these little 15-minute projects, we'll likely continue to do something more difficult and daunting.

1. Silverware drawer

A great way to get started with a silverware drawer is you can take everything out of it, clean the bottom of the drawer, any little crumbs that you find, put your cutlery divider back in, and then as you are putting your silverware back in, think about how much of each type of item you need.

Don't put it back into the drawer if you have too much of anything in any category.

2. Manuals and instruction booklets

Usually, we don't need to keep the physical paper copy of a manual because you can get it online. Also, if you start decluttering and going through manuals, you'll likely find instructions for things you no longer have.

Organized bath linens

3. Bath linens

These are your towels, washcloths, and hand towels. Take a look at your inventory level. If you have found that you are just shoving these items into the spot where they are stored, that may indicate that you have too many. Get rid of old, stained, ripped, or smelly linens too.

4. Magazines and newspapers.

If there is a magazine or a newspaper that you know has information in it that you want to revisit, go ahead and clip those things out, or rip out that page.

Most of the time, we can take the entire magazine, put it in the recycle bin, and move on with our lives.

Organizing makeup and toiletries

5. Makeup and toiletries

We can do some quick work because we know what we love and use regularly. Just by holding up those products one at a time and looking at them, we can make quick decisions if they will be tossed or kept.

If we haven't used something in the last six months; we will unlikely use it any time, so get rid of it.

Organizing coats

6. Coat closet

I'm sure you'll find some things in there that you can declutter. In this instance, we're talking about coats. I would suggest that a coat declutter take everything off the hangers and then, one by one, start putting your favorites back on. Pick which items you use regularly.

7. Front of your fridge or the side of your fridge

If I were to look at a fridge and have it just plastered with magnets and papers and to-do notes and reminders and permission slips, it would just make me uncomfortable.

Go through the face and side of your fridge, and get rid of anything outdated or that you're not using.

Decluttered window sills

8. Window sills

I like to put small potted plants and decorations on window sills; sometimes, this can get slightly out of control. Take everything down, quickly wipe it down, and reevaluate what you want to keep on the windowsill.

Decluttering a DVD collection

9. DVDs and music CD collections

I understand that some people like to have that physical copy of their favorite movie, band, CD, or whatever the case may be. It is important to, at times, go through your collections of this type of media.

If there's anything in that pile of media you are not using, you are not enjoying; you can get rid of it.

10. Purse, handbag, or backpack

These little spaces are travelers, and that means that they are picking up things along their travels. There are just a lot of little random things within a purse, handbag, or backpack that you carry with you regularly.

Go through it, and declutter it; you can get this done so quickly if you dump everything out of it and then put things you're using back in.

11. Your vehicle

Your trunk or glove compartment can get filled up with all sorts of random things, and they need a good declutter every once in a while. You can get them done very quickly.

Set your timer for 15 minutes. Start getting rid of all those random things that have accumulated. Sometimes decluttering doesn't mean just getting rid of it, throwing it out, or donating it.

Sometimes it just means putting items back in their rightful homes. You can put it back if it doesn't belong in your vehicle.

Decluttering games and puzzles

12. Games and puzzles

A game cabinet or closet is another area where we can make quick decluttering decisions because we know which games we gravitate towards and play the most often, and we know which ones are taking up space.

If you have any games that are missing pieces, if you have puzzles that you never really want to do again, it does need to take up space in your home.

Pick one office desk drawer and declutter it in 15 minutes or less. This might be a very simple task for you, but it also might require a little bit more thought because when it comes to our offices.

We have papers that might need to be filed away, and we might have receipts that need to be documented for business purposes. If you do this routinely over the week, you might get your entire office desk decluttered.

14. Cleaning supplies

I know that I have, at times, tried out different cleaning supplies that I thought would be useful in my home, and then I found that I didn't like the smell or didn't feel like they did an outstanding job.

So going through those cleaning supplies shouldn't take long because you know which items you are using, and you don't need to hold onto the rest.
