So many people think that one small home is just like the next. But that’s simply not true. With the right small house design, you can build a unique custom home that meets all of your family’s needs and then some.

Holly and Benj are a couple who live in an incredible home they designed and built themselves. Narrow and tall, this home minimizes the impact on the land—which was a huge consideration of theirs before they got started.

Wanting to have enough room to live comfortably, Holly and Benj carefully incorporated small space designs to make the most of the footprint they were working with. And their many efforts to create a comfortable and very liveable space do not go unnoticed.

The exterior of the home was built with both brick and metal siding. There are plenty of individual spaces with tailored landscaping, wide-open green spaces, a large dining table under a pergola, and even a cast iron bath with jets.

Inside, the home features huge floor-to-ceiling windows, reclaimed brickwork, colorful hand-painted tiles, and locally sourced timber.

It also has polished concrete floors with blue stone and river stone. And stainless steel appliances and features in the kitchen give it even more visual appeal.

With carefully curated furniture pieces, open shelf storage, and custom art pieces too, this off-grid solar system home is quite impressive.

The loft area in this small home is one of the most luxurious spaces in this home. With stunning views of the natural backdrop, vaulted ceilings, and a metal railing, it’s hard to want to leave this area at any time.

It truly makes for a great master bedroom with a queen-sized bed, bedside table, wardrobes for clothing and linens, book nook reading area, and spiral staircase.
