15 Incredible Organization Hacks That You Need To Know
I’m organizing my coat and utility closets using popular organization hacks from another organization channel, Do It On A Dime, run by Kathryn, who has also used Dollar Tree items to organize her home.
I will use many of my favorite ideas and hacks in my own home. Let’s see if these DIY organization hacks work in my 1,000-square-foot home.
1. Hanging pockets
My husband and I downsized from a six-bedroom McMansion to a tiny three-bedroom love cottage once our kids were grown-and-flown.
I’ve learned to make the most of my vertical space. One way is to use this hanging pocket. I put two hooks up and hung it from there.
2. Velcro strips
I mounted a hanging shoe organizer from Dollar Tree to the inside of a cabinet and secured it on the underside with Velcro strips. The pockets hold dusters and other awkward items.
3 and 4. Handled duster and fan duster
Here are two of my favorite dusters I learned about from Kathryn. The pockets on this hanging organizer are deep enough to hold them.
I also put all of my vacuum attachments in the pockets. The pockets hold all the little things that were cluttering up my space.
5. Wire rack
I see this hack all the time – using these wire racks from Dollar Tree. I zip-tied four of them together to make a wonderful shelf at a fraction of the price you’d pay for others.
6. Shoe boxes
I used these covered boxes in my utility closet. I learned to contain things in these boxes and let that define how much I have. I knew I had to limit some pet supplies into shoeboxes.
7. Wallpaper
Dollar Tree started carrying some high-end wallpaper. I love working with this peel-and-stick item as shelf paper.
8. Locker bins
These bins are one of Dollar Tree’s tried and true products because they work in so many different settings. I use them on top of my wire shelves to make the most of the space.
If you like clear bins, use those. I’m grouping things that make sense to me but use a system that makes sense to you.
9. Flexible tubs
Another great Dollar Tree product are these flexible tubs that conform to the space you have.
10. Bissell steamer
I love this Bissell steamer because it can do so many things. I love to use it to clean my windows with distilled water and microfiber cloth. It’s one of the things I store in my flexible tub.
11. Pull-out tray
These pull-out trays with handles are meant for the fridge but I use them everywhere.
12. Ikea boxes
These hinged-lid Ikea boxes are my favorites to corral smaller items like clothespins and dog waste bags.
13. Over-the-door bar
These Dollar Tree towel bars can be taken apart into two pieces and threaded through a paper towel roll. It’s great for the kitchen or a clean-up station. It works best if you roll the towel down the side of the door.
14. Cricut Joy for labels
I received a Cricut Joy for a holiday gift so I use that now for labels. Let me know what ways you label your bins in the comments below!

15. Drink pitcher
This simple drink pitcher from Dollar Tree makes an excellent scrub bucket when you have small spaces to scrub.
16. Tap light
I wanted to add more light with this tap light from Dollar Tree. It hooks on the wall so I can remove it and take it with me if I have to walk the dog at night.
17. Ikea shelves
To make the most of the closet’s vertical space, I used wire shelves with fold-out legs from Ikea that are really shoe organizers but will work here.
18. Zip ties
I used Dollar Tree zip ties to secure the shelves and make the stacked Ikea shelves sturdier.
19. Kitty litter pans
Thanks to Do It On A Dime, I’ve learned to think more outside the box. Kitty litter pans are the perfect size to fit into these shelves.
These pans have a helpful center line under the lip to help you center more permanent labels if you want.
20. Sticky notes
Dollar Tree sticky notes are the perfect helpful aid for organizing temporary items. I can move them around when I change my mind.
These pans have a helpful center line under the lip to help you center more permanent labels if you want them, instead.
21. Vinyl paper
I use their inexpensive Cricut dupe vinyl paper to cover the dingy clothes racks in my closet. It makes the whole space look cleaner and brighter.
22. Shark Steam mop
I love this Shark Steam mop.
23. Plastic planters
Plastic planters can be used for so many other things besides flowers. I used Velcro strips to attach some pots to the floor of the closet. I use this for umbrella storage, especially when it’s dripping wet.
24. Magic Erasers
The system of hooks and holders on my door was no longer working so I removed it all and cleaned it all with Mr. Clean Magic Eraser dupes from Dollar Tree
25. Over-the-door hanger
Next, I hung a simple door hanger from Dollar Tree and it takes care of hats and other items.
Organization hacks
I learned that you must take everything out of the closet to evaluate items before you declutter and organize. I dreaded doing this project and put it off for as long as I could.
But these organization hacks were so much fun that I wanted to clean my entire house using these items. What are some of your favorite ideas from this list? Let me know in the comments.
