While shipping container homes have gotten a lot of attention in recent years, some people may not realize just how awesome a cabin shipping container retreat in the woods can be. And that’s why Exploring Alternatives recorded a tour of a stunning shipping container cabin located in Quebec, Canada for you to see for yourself.

Shipping containers

Cabin-style shipping container homes are anything but ordinary. This one in particular is thirty-one feet long, eight feet wide, and nine and a half feet tall. It has a gorgeous wood-paneled interior, custom black cabinetry, furniture that transforms to provide several essential functions, an extra large picture window, and lots of amenities to keep visitors comfortable.

When building a shipping container cabin for this location, a CNC machine was used to create custom kitchen cabinets with circles cut out of the cabinet doors and drawers instead of pulls. They are backed by stainless steel inserts that match the kitchen’s stainless steel countertops.

This DIY shipping container cabin also has a built-in wine rack that doubles as a nightstand for the bed, welded metal features located throughout, LED strips for providing extra light near the headboard of the bed, and a padded side so you can turn in bed and gaze out the window.

Another cool feature of this cabin shipping container is a custom-built table that can be used for two people or slid out on tracks to create additional eating space. Plus, there is a lounging area with a sofa bed with thick memory foam for comfort.

Lastly, there’s a large walk-in shower with a sliding glass door and a tall window inside, a regular flush toilet hooked up to septic, and a small sink and mirror. And the designers even installed exposed copper pipes for aesthetic purposes.

    How is this home insulated?

Very interesting and well laid out! I've been intrigued by the container homes for awhile now and I especially like the windows...they're great!

The only thing that 'raised an eyebrow' is the placement of the toilet paper holder. Unless I'm mistaken, it shows mounted on the opposite side of the sink...close to the doorway but, looks almost out of reach to the "user".
