10 Easy Closet Hacks From Dollar Tree
Let’s go over some of my favorite closet hacks so you can get your closet organized. If you are on a budget, don’t worry. This is going to be a Dollar Tree closet organization, so you will barely have to spend any money at all.
1. Hanging shelves with bins
I’m a small space organizing and downsizing expert and one of my favorite closet organizer ideas involved a 6-shelf hanging organizer that can be found at the Dollar Tree.
I use this in combination with some organizing bins. Here’s what I did. I hung the shelf hanging organizer and put an organizing bin on each shelf.
The shelves allow you to utilize vertical space for storage, while the bins serve as drawers. Placing items in a bin drawer rather than just putting them on the shelves helps keep the space looking more organized.
If you have heavy items in there, get some zip ties to better secure the shelves to the hanging rod.
2. Rolling cart
Another product I purchased to help organize the closet was a 3-tier rolling cart from Michael’s. It’s one of the more expensive items I purchased for this closet-organizing task, but it was heavily discounted. The visual appeal and the convenience of the item were reason enough to splurge a bit here.
You can even buy organizers to go inside the cart drawers. A rolling cart expands the space with vertical storage options. The rolling cart I purchased is going to be used by my daughter-in-law. She wanted a more organized system for storing gift-wrapping supplies. I stocked the cart with gift-wrapping supplies from the Dollar Tree.
I got a couple of clip-on bins to hold the wrapping paper but they weren’t deep enough to hold them. The wrapping paper would just fall to the side. I decided to use some zip ties again to create some loops from one of the higher drawers to hold the wrapping paper in place. This turned out to be the perfect hack.
3. Color code your closet
One of my favorite hacks for making your clothes look nice in your closet is to color-code them. This hack also makes your clothes easy to find. This makes it so much easier to get dressed and find everything you need quickly and without any fuss.
4. Scheduled inventory
I recommend doing a scheduled inventory of your closet once a quarter. Go through everything you have in your closet. Be ruthless in regards to getting rid of anything that is stained, torn, and not getting used.
When doing a closet audit, make time in your schedule to donate what you’re getting rid of the same day. This way you won’t have clutter sitting around in your house or car, waiting to be donated.
5. Seasonal capsule
No matter the size of your closet, you will find that you will love the clothes you have even more if you pare them down to a capsule wardrobe.
For a capsule wardrobe, keep 10 – 50 basic items that you can mix and match. This hack will not only save you money, but also make your entire closet easier to manage and organize.
6. Longer garments
If you have no space in your closet for hanging longer garments, try using two hangers. Drape the bottom on the second hanger.
7. Seasonal storage
Use storage spaces to store seasonal clothing. I like to put my summer shoes in a bin and store them under my bed during the winter months.
I use the cat litter pans from Dollar Tree for summer shoes and it slides easily under the bed.
8. Moisture-free
Closet areas tend to trap moisture and odors. I recommend picking up a couple of moisture eliminators. Just pop them in your closet and let them take care of any moisture or unpleasant odors.
9. Drawer dividers
You can double the space in your drawers by using the clear-standing frames from Dollar Tree. This will allow you to segment the drawer so you can get the most efficient use of that space.
10. Extra hanging space
We all could use some extra hanging space. Over-the-door hooks are a great way to increase your hanging space. You can also hang them on closet rods.
