Organize Your House For Free With These DIY Organizer Ideas

Often organizers are deemed expensive, and I can totally relate, which is why I use DIY organizer solutions at home. They are a mix of store-bought organizers plus some no-cost DIY organization or upcycled products.

These are the little things I use to stay organized around my home, but they make a world of difference in my life. These ideas are meant to be an inspiration to get your creative juices flowing, and I hope you all will get some solutions for your home too.

Small organization tips

Organizing should begin with smaller but significant things, which, if given a home, can instantly make the space look clean. Rubber bands and bag clips are one such thing. We usually don't even consider providing them with their own space.

Bag clips and rubber band box

This is how I keep them, so I know where to grab them from whenever I need a rubber band or a clip.

DIY knife organizer

A store-bought knife block or other such organizers were slightly too big for just two knives, which is why this DIY organizer works perfectly for me.

Organizing knives with wrapped skewers

Compactly wrapped skewers are a 1-minute solution, which I've been using for months now to store my knives.

I had extra skewers at home and made a simple knife holder. The idea here is to come up with creative ways that help us stay organized in our daily life.

DIY cleaning glove holder

By increasing accessibility or saving space, doing dishes, especially wooden items or fragile things, is a day-to-day chore, so using these gloves was very natural.

However, it was a struggle to get them to dry and at the same time keep them at a place that was super accessible for me since I like to clean the dishes, not in one shot, but as the day progresses, I often reach out for these gloves.

Clothespins for gloves

This is the best solution I have come up with in a long time.

I simply attach clothespins to the inside of a cabinet door using double-stick tape. I then use a clothespin to secure my gloves. I have since replicated the same concept for a cleaning cloth, which is also something that comes to use multiple times a day.

Indian kitchens have a factor that makes them stand apart from all other kitchens, and that is the beautiful spice boxes that adorn our shelves. I've always loved having a variety of them in my kitchen.

However, they are not always available with compartments, so I made my own compartments using stiff paper.

Making spice compartments

All I did was I folded the paper as per the height and width of each compartment, and no cutting was needed at all.

Of course, this method may not be suitable for powdered spices, but this can be used in various other ways around the home, like keeping jewelry, stationery, et cetera.

Pantry organization

I've always had extra oil bottles and some sauces in my pantry stock. I organized them using packaging boxes.

Organizing a pantry

The trick is not to cut the lids out; just fold them inwards, adding more strength to the box.

This way, the box can be used again later, in case you need it. We all show off our fancy pantry units and cabinets with beautiful jars, et cetera. But what about the backup stock, which we all have? If plastic is not your thing, then reusing other boxes this way can help categorize things individually, making them accessible for later use.

With that, my pantry drawer was completely set. Of course, you can jazz up these boxes any way that you like, but I like to switch them up every once in a while when the current ones wear out so that they hold up everything quite strongly enough.

Clothes folding

In a recent closet organization video, I showed how a nicely folded pile of clothes could make the wardrobe look so much neater and more organized.

Folding clothes

To ensure that all clothes are folded to the same size, I use this board I made from haven cardboard that simultaneously acts as a guide.

DIY cord organizers

I also resolved a very small problem of organizing my heavy-duty cords that have been dangling around in my laundry room.

No-cost DIY organizers

Using the center cardboard of a toilet paper roll, just like this one, does the job in no time.

Toilet paper rolls can also be utilized to control the long-length cord of other appliances. Like, for instance, behind the microwave.

DIY organizers

These are only some of the many DIY organizers I use to keep things in order in my home. Of course, this is an ever-evolving process where newer ideas and DIYs keep cropping up in my mind. What no-cost DIY organization tips do you have? Comment below to share your ideas.
